Ireached for the door when a commotion behind us broke out. Colsen turned first, and the curse under his breath warned trouble started. My first thought was Gunnar. Or one of the boys getting out of line.

What I didn’t expect to see was Brina on the ground with Kelsey looming over her. I could tell by her eyes my mate was in the mood for a fight. They tussled, and Kelsey had a fist of red hair clutched in her hand as she snarled into Brina’s face.

A slow grin spread across my lips.

“You’re not going to put an end to this?” Riven asked, looking as if he was seconds away from interfering on my behalf.

I shook my head. “No, I told Brina what would happen if she didn’t stop her games. Kelsey needs to handle this on her own, or it won’t stop.”

My mate was magnificent.

I didn’t linger to see how the fight ended. I would find out in the next ten minutes regardless, and after this morning, I didn’t trust myself. Not around Kelsey.

I’d been too damn close to doing the very thing I fought against my whole life. Losing myself fully to the wolf. At all times, I maintained a certain level of control, even in my animal form. It was that degree of discipline that made me stronger.

To think, a single weak moment of waking up in bed with Kelsey nearly dismantled years of training. That was the power she had over me.

And right now, the best thing for both of us was distance. My focus needed to be on Gunnar and drawing out the one responsible for targeting Kelsey.

I had to come up with a plan. Get my head in the game. Or we’d be blindsided again when we needed to be a step ahead.

It needed to be foolproof, and I couldn’t involve the pack. The risk it would get back to my father was too great. I didn’t want to believe he would order my mate to be kidnapped, but I also knew better than to disregard all possibilities.

There was a liar among us.

Gunnar or my father.

One of them would be exposed.
